Melanesian Solidarity Groups

take it to the MSG

Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) leaders will meet in Honiara from 18 June till 26 June.  It is believed that a final decision on the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP)’s application for membership at the MSG will be made on 26 June.

West Papua’s membership to MSG means its people would have an international voice without the influence and fear of Indonesian military rule and oppression.

Membership in the MSG would enable West Papua to gain a regional platform from which serious human rights, sovereignty and development concerns could be raised. Specifically, membership of the MSG would assist West Papuans to pursue their just rights to self-determination in the UN Decolonisation Committee and other international forums.

You will find here a recent  letter from our Auckland sister organisation to MSG leaders encouraging MSG leaders to grant MSG membership to the United Liberation Movement for West Papua.

For more information on why membership in the MSG is important for the people of West Papua, check out this West Papua for MSG Information Pack.
